From Struggles to Strengths: An Imperfect Story of a Gen Z
“I vividly remember the night I got my first period, gasping to make sense of the baffling situation. Since then, life has not been the same.” This sentiment is not only shared by many girls but has become a global statement. The line encapsulates emotions tied to societal factors often hidden in silence.
I’m Ayushi Mishra, a 22-year-old from India, setting out on a blogging venture with a purpose. My mission? To empower and enlighten countless young girls and millennials. Through my blog, I’ll delve into my journey from adolescence to navigating my 20s, sharing both the triumphs and trials. My goal is to inspire teenage girls and women to embrace their experiences, and to stand tall and proud of the paths they’ve walked. Let’s celebrate the innate spirit and vibrancy of womanhood together.
I’ll begin by discussing the challenges I faced during my teenage years and how overcoming these obstacles shaped the person I am today. Initially, I suffered from severe menstrual cramps so much so that, on some days the pain used to begin a week before my periods, and I had to use painkiller drips to relieve it – it was a nightmare. My family assured me that this was ‘normal’ for a girl, but it was hard to accept that these cramps would inform my life decisions. Ignoring the need to consult a gynecologist due to insufficient knowledge about my body, I ended up with PCOD and other severe hormonal issues, causing my weight to increase to 80 kgs.
As I journeyed through life, diligently making lifestyle adjustments to manage my health, I found myself grappling with the challenges posed by my genetically low immune system and hormonal imbalances. These hurdles manifested in troublesome digestion issues, eventually revealing an additional layer of complexity with the diagnosis of psoriasis, a condition without a cure.
The weight of this discovery was heavy, leaving me overwhelmed and shocked. In moments of vulnerability, I yearned for understanding and empathy from those around me. However, I couldn’t help but notice a prevailing lack of comprehension among both my peers and colleagues. Despite my need for emotional support, the empathy I sought seemed elusive, overshadowed by a disregard for ethical social conduct. Reflecting on these experiences, I’ve come to realize the importance of fostering a community that prioritizes compassion and understanding.
Accepting these flaws that society seldom discusses was not only difficult but also alarming. As a young woman keen on transitioning smoothly from school to college and then to a professional career, I had to invest a lot of emotional strength and stability to cope with these challenges. That’s why I don’t want anyone else to be unaware of these harsh realities that could rob them of their prime years.
Through this blog, I’ll share my personal experiences and insights, offering guidance and support to those who may be on a similar path, and willing to become a mentor that I thought I had in the initial phase of my adolescent life. We’ll explore the impacts of societal expectations and the pressures these can place on our overall wellness. Together, we will navigate this journey, discussing the physical and emotional challenges faced while dealing with women’s overall health and challenges while discussing the remedies or work place ethics to be followed. This platform will also serve as a safe space to voice our concerns, share our victories, and engage in open conversations about topics that often remain unspoken.
Don’t mistake this blog as being limited to a specific realm. Instead, it aims to enlighten the world around you. The blog’s purpose extends beyond women’s empowerment and wellness, as it is dedicated to all sections and genders in society. We will also take a closer look at the myriad ways societal expectations, norms, and pressures can influence our well-being.
From discussing physical health issues like PCOD and psoriasis to emotional challenges like anxiety and stress, no topic is off-limits. This platform is not just a blog, but a safe space where we can voice our concerns, share our triumphs, and engage in open conversations about subjects that often go unspoken.
In our next blog post, we’ll start by tackling how external factors contribute to structuring a woman’s existence in society. We’ll aim to uncover and address the deep-seated root causes that often go unnoticed or are considered ‘normal’. Stay tuned for a thoughtful exploration of these pressing issues as we embark on this enlightening journey together.
